How To Join A Credit Union

Whether you’re just starting out with your first job, or halfway toward retirement, you have a lot of options when it comes to financial institutions to save and invest your hard-earned dough.

Credit unions are locally operated and managed, so they can offer a personal service you may not find at large national banks. They can help you reach your goals and ensure you’re comfortable with every choice you make toward your financial future.

When you join a credit union, you’re not just opening an account. You’re not just a number, or just a customer.

As a member you are also an owner in your local credit union. The local board members and staff are working hard for you, to bring you the best services and support.

There are no shareholders. It’s all about YOU.

Credit unions also provide invaluable services that large banks cannot, including financial counseling and education for the community.

When you’re ready to join your neighborhood credit union, visit carolinasleague.org/find_a_cu. Simply enter your address and you will receive a list of credit unions in your area and the services they offer.

Each credit union has a field of membership, meaning that you are eligible to join them based on your employer, location, family or participation in a church, school, labor union or HOA.

Joining is as easy as making a small deposit, often between $5 and $25. This represents your purchase of a share in the credit union.

Now you’re ready to set up your membership account and begin the best financial relationship of your life!
